Dec 21, 2018 · An area of the brain involved in language and speech production, known as Broca's area, is located in the left frontal lobe. The prefrontal cortex is the front portion of the frontal lobes and manages complex cognitive process such as memory, planning, reasoning, and problem-solving.
Therapy allows children to take the restored level of sensitive hearing and learn to understand spoken language and produce intelligible speech. Unlike adults who have lost their hearing after the development of speech and language, deaf children have no auditory memories to draw upon to understand spoken communication.
“As a Special Education Assistant at an elementary school, I worked with Fiona Hui to support a student with severe delay in his speech production skills. Every week I attended the therapy sessions with the student, observing and taking notes of the new goals for the following week.
Outcome/goal: Student will complete non-preferred tasks with needing no more than one prompt, and without displaying negative behaviors over a six week period. Outcome/goal: Student will improve fine motor skills so he can use classroom tools, using a three point grasp to hold writing utensils and paintbrushes, and manipulate scissors to cut along a straight or curved line.

Dec 22, 2020 · The staff has expanded to include two physical therapist and one physical therapy assistant, a speech language pathologist, an occupational therapist and a full-time administrative assistant.
Speech pathology master's programs prepare students to take the national certifying exam and complete clinical practicum experience. Students complete covering in research methodology, early interventions in speech therapy, fluency and language disorders, and neurology and speech science.
